Heidi Coffer CFO and SVP of Finance
BS in Business Administration, Accounting Concentration, CSU San Bernardino

Throughout Women’s History Month, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF) is proud to share the unique stories, perspectives, and contributions of the women across our community. From our mothers and women caregivers, to staff and Board Members, to donors and volunteers, we are fortunate to be surrounded by a remarkable network of strong female supporters who inspire us every day.

We are pleased to highlight a member of our Senior Leadership Team, Heidi Coffer. Hedi has served the BGCSF community since 1997.

As CFO and SVP of Finance, Heidi is in charge of all financial aspects of the organization.  BGCSF is a large and complex nonprofit organization with a 133 year history. BGCSF’s financial operation is far more complex than people may realize, and extends well beyond its $21M+ annual budget.

Heidi’s work is multifaceted. “On the revenue side, I manage the forecasting and cash flow management for our capacity-building and capital campaigns, and track all donor restricted funds. My team is also deeply involved with government grants, ensuring that BGCSF maintains the utmost integrity relating to grant spend. We also track expense spending very closely to ensure that our expenses are always aligned with what is best for youth. Beyond this, we also manage payroll and benefits, ensuring that all of our employees are paid properly and on time.”

Heidi has decades of experience as a CPA and has been affiliated with BGCSF since 1997. Starting as an external audit manager, Heid supported the merger between the Columbia Park Boys & Girls Club and the San Francisco Boys & Girls Club, creating Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco in 2001. By the time she became part of the internal team in 2013, her connection to the organization was well established: “The decision to come in-house at BGCSF was easy — I saw first-hand that this was an organization that is deeply committed to putting youth first. Kids are our future; we all know that, but seeing it in action is so inspiring. I am thrilled to play a leadership role in supporting the infrastructure that makes this work possible.”

Heidi credits working directly with President, Rob Connolly, and Chief Operating Officer, Maxine Wilson, as a driving force behind her success and the accomplishment of strategic plan goals: “Together, we’ve successfully opened new sites, reached more kids, increased salaries for our employees, embarked on capital projects, implemented new tools to increase efficiency, and so much more.”

Expanding upon her commitment to the organization, Heidi shares that nurturing young team members who are new to their professional careers, or just new to BGCSF, is one of the most gratifying parts of her work. “Seeing my team members’ growth and dedication to our organization is so rewarding. Two of my team members were coaches this year to our Youth of the Year participants, and it was so great to see how much they got out of the program. I’m often a coach annually, and it’s always the best part of my job!”

When asked what keeps her coming back to work at BGCSF each day, Heidi answers without hesitation: “I am lucky and privileged to be part of such a fantastic team and organization. We operate as one team, to ensure the greater good of the organization — for the kids we serve now and in the future.  What could be a better job than this?”

Moving Past Election Season

It’s been a long and divisive election season. At both the local and national levels, there has been a barrage of messages about what is wrong in our society. And, there has been a relentless emphasis on our differences, making them seem impossible to bridge.
